GroupWise Disaster Recovery (Reload)

GroupWise Disaster Recovery (often referred to as "Reload") is a tool used for the backup, restoration, and disaster recovery of Novell GroupWise email systems. It provides a way to ensure that GroupWise data, including email, calendars, and other messaging components, is regularly backed up and can be restored in case of system failures, data corruption, or other catastrophic events.

Reload offers several key features:

  1. Backup and Restore: It allows administrators to back up GroupWise systems, including databases and configuration files, and restore them as needed.
  2. Disaster Recovery: In the event of server failure or other disasters, Reload can help quickly restore GroupWise functionality, reducing downtime.
  3. Archiving: Reload also supports archiving GroupWise data, which can help with long-term data retention and compliance.

Overall, Reload is designed to minimize the risk of data loss and ensure the continuity of GroupWise email services during disruptions.

Firewall Configuration for SLES 15 and NFS

Introduction to GroupWise Reload and NFS

GroupWise Reload uses Network File System (NFS) to perform server-to-server copies of GroupWise data during backup and disaster recovery processes. This method is specifically used to connect from the Reload server to the file system on the SLES based GroupWise Server.

Firewall Configuration for Reload

Out of the box, the SLES 15 firewall is not configured correctly for Reload to function. For Reload to perform its server-to-server copy operations via NFS, the firewall must be configured beyond the default services and configurations. This guide will walk you through the necessary steps to configure the firewall and ensure Reload operates as intended.

** Note that NFS is not used when connecting to Windows servers running GroupWise. **
